At the Pilarski Real Estate Group, the Queensway Village is a neighbourhood very close to our hearts. As west end Toronto locals, we’ve grown up alongside this fantastic community and have been able to watch it grow and develop first-hand.
However, no matter how large and populous the Queensway Village becomes, we admire the respect city planners and local residents alike have for the beautiful natural amenities that surround the neighbourhood.
Whether you lead a highly active lifestyle or just enjoy being able to get outside every once in a while, the Queensway Village is a perfect place to be due to its fantastic local parks and green spaces.
If you’d like to get our local insight into some of the best places to explore the outdoors in the Queensway Village, then this blog post is for you.
The Humber River
Not only does the Humber River mark the Queensway Village’s eastern border, but it’s also one of the most popular natural amenities in all of west Toronto. With its mouth located along the shores of Lake Ontario, the entire Humber River spans about 100 kilometres north.
The southernmost section of the river that runs alongside the Queensway Village contains many of the river’s most popular and appealing twists and turns.
Whether you’re journeying through the waterways and canals on kayak or canoe or taking advantage of the seemingly endless lengths of hiking trails beside the river, there’s an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the Humber River in their own way.
Mimico Creek
Outlining the western border of the Queensway Village is another natural waterway, the Mimico Creek. While not as strong or lengthy as the Humber River, the Mimico Creek is still a picturesque stream readily accessible by local residents of the Queensway Village.
Spanning about 33 kilometres in length, the mouth of the Mimico Creek is also located at the shorelines of Lake Ontario and winds up towards the north.
With multiple entry points and lots of trails and footpaths alongside Mimico Creek, this smaller stream still makes for a great day of exploring. Whether you’re up for a big adventure or a short hike, Mimico Creek is a great place to do it.
The Humber Bay Shores
The southernmost border of the Queensway Village is outlined by the breathtaking shoreline of Lake Ontario — in particular, the portion of Lake Ontario known as the Humber Bay. While the Humber Bay extends across quite a wide portion of Toronto and Mississauga, the section blessed with what’s known as the Humber Bay Shores is exclusive to the Queensway Village.
While Marine Parade Drive, the roadway that runs along the Humber Bay Shores, hosts an appealing collection of cafes, restaurants, and other notable retail outlets, Humber Bay Shores is also home to many natural amenities. These include an expansive collection of parks and green spaces that are very frequently used by those who love the outdoors.
With Humber Bay Shores Park, Humber Bay Park East, the Humber Bay Butterfly Habitat, Jean Augustine Park, Sheldon Lookout, and many more publicly available parks all within close proximity from one another, the Humber Bay Shores are always a fun meeting place for visitors and residents of the Queensway Village.
South Humber Park
Found just a few blocks north of the Humber Bay Shores, South Humber Park is another widely loved and highly appreciated park space in the Queensway Village community.
Branching off of the Humber River and looping around the Humber Water Treatment Plant, South Humber Park’s footprint is impressively large considering its location. While there are countless ways to enjoy this fantastic public green space, the South Humber Park’s most frequented amenities include the Humber Recreational Trail, as well as the small river that runs parallel.
One aspect we love about South Humber Park is that runners, hikers, and bikers can easily get to the Tommy Thompson Trail from various entrances to the park, making South Humber Park a tranquil destination for picnics, sightseeing, and stargazing.
